Sue Hill and her family came to live in North Devon nearly 28 years ago, having known Mortehoe and Woolacombe from childhood holidays. A love of old local books and postcards, and seashells from Barricane Beach, led her to set up a little publishing enterprise, Barricane Books, three years ago, starting with ‘Woolacombe and Mortehoe in Old Postcards’. Since then similar volumes have featured Georgeham, Croyde and Saunton; she has published ‘My Life in Morte’ by Ray Easterbrook, ‘On My Home Ground’ by Steve Brown, and republished ‘A Woolacombe Childhood’ by Alice Trebble. Small booklets about WWII evacuees are also available, and she has also collated and edited new guides for both St. Sabinus’ Church in Woolcombe and St. Mary’s in Mortehoe. Sue is a founder member and Trustee of Mortehoe Museum/Mortehoe Heritage Trust, edits the monthly parish magazine ‘Woolacombe and Mortehoe News’ and also helps to run two Local History groups for Braunton’s U3A (‘Third Age’) organisation.
There is now a Barricane Books website:
