The Narracott as designed by Reggie Gale was not an eysore. It was a visionary interpretation by an enlightened young architect. It’s beach fronting elevation became an icon that linked in the 1960’s/70’s with The Red Barn frontage as an exemplar of those Carnaby Street/Flower Power Surfing days.
I spent the summer of ’78 working at the Sands Hotel just up the road from the Naracott Grand….chief memory was all the staff at both predominantly “escapees” from Liverpool and Manchester looking for Summer by the sea I suppose.Anyone remember the Sands or the Marisco disco? great fun!
